うさぎとかめ The Hare and the Tortoise

There were a hare and a tortoise in a small village.

The hare said to the tortoise one day,

“Hey, Tortoise, which of us do you think runs faster?”

The tortoise answered,

“Hmm, it’s hard to say.
I'm not a fast runner, but I don't think you can beat me.”

“Don’t be silly.
You’re no competition for me,”

said the hare who was always proud of being a good runner.

“Oh, really? I can run pretty fast, too, if I try.”
Said the tortoise.

“OK, why don’t we have a race to that mountain.”
Said the hare.

The tortoise replied,
“Sure. I’ll do my best.”

The hare and the tortoise ran at the same time toward the distant mountain.

The hare was in the lead from the start .

When the hare got near the mountain, he looked back and said,

“See, I’m much faster than Tortoise.

I don’t see him anywhere.”

“My victory is obvious.
I think I’ll take a rest for a while,”

said the hare and lay down on the grass along the road.

As the weather was so nice and he felt so comfortable, before he knew it he fell fast asleep.

In the meantime, the tortoise was running steadily, but his pace was so slow that he Looked like he was walking.

“Phew. Hare is so fast!
But who knows, I may catch up with him if I continue running.”

He said to himself and went on.

Soon, the tortoise came upon the sleeping hare.

“Well, well, Hare is asleep.
I feel like resting, too. No, no,
I better not. I’m slow, I shouldn’t stop.”
He thought.

Finally the tortoise reached the mountain top.

“I made it! I won! I beat Hare.”

Exclaimed the tortoise with joy.

The tortoise’s voice woke the hare.

“Oh my gosh! Why did I fall asleep?

Oh no, Tortoise is on top of the mountain.

He beat me.

I should have run to the end without taking a rest.”

The hare regretted.

   The end
